Memorial Day

Memorial Day was fun. Cullen did not have to leave for work until 3pm so we were able to have a barbecue! Jenn, Chris, and Samantha came over. We were going to go to the park, but it was too hot! So we hung inside and watched the kids play on the floor and the men cooked. We had salad, hamburgers, corn on the cob, macaroni salad, and cup cakes. YUM! I don’t think anyone ate dinner after that lunch.

Weekly Quote

Peace, like charity, begins at home.
~Anonymous

You learn many things from your family. One of which is peace. What is peace? It is different to different people. If you had a small family it may mean quiet time. If you had a big family it may mean no one is yelling. Whatever a persons definition of peace it is important. Now that I am a parent I am teaching my child everything, even if I don’t say anything. Gregory learns how to act through my actions. That means that if I am not nice to the people around me I am teaching him it is ok to not be nice and if I am nice he will learn to be nice. So, I better be sure to treat others the way I want Gregory to treat others.

Trip to the American History Museum

Today Cullen, Gregory, and I went to the American History Museum in D.C. It was a lot of fun. We walked around everywhere. It takes a whole day to get through just one museum. It is nice that we live so close so we can go when it is convenient and not have to pack too much in one day. I think my favorite part was the section they had on time. They had quite a bit of information written in Braille, but I was too lazy to read it. Cullen read it for me, the print not the Braille. I also enjoyed seeing all the First Lady’s dresses. Many of the dresses had trains. I think my train I had on my wedding dress was great, but I would not want one for another occasion, because they are too easily tripped on or someone else could step on it. Now we are home Gregory is in bed and Cullen and I are going to take it easy and probably have some popcorn and watch a movie. SMILES!

Weebok Playgroup

Today Gregory went to his first playgroup. I enjoyed myself and I believe Gregory did too. The woman who picked us up her daughter was born the same day Gregory was. There were four other children at the playgroup. It was nice to get out and talk with other women dealing with the same stage in their child’s life as mine. It was nice to know that these women had the same concerns as me. In some aspects of raising Gregory I have felt alone. A month ago I only knew one stay at home mom and I only knew her through a friend, but we rarely talked and she did not breastfeed. Now I have met many stay at home moms and many of them breastfeed or breastfed their children. Just the subject of breastfeeding gives us much in common. Bottle-feeding and breastfeeding are very different, but each form of feeding has their concerns and it is nice to be able to talk about it with other mothers that have been there. This group was through the MOMs club and it was for children 18 months and under.

Weekly Quote

Moments spent listening, talking, playing, and sharing together may be the most important time of all.
~Gloria Gaither

These moments can be so easily missed when families move away. But, thank goodness for the telephone!

2nd Anniversary

Cullen and I had our second anniversary on the 15th. We went to Old Town Alexandria. It was nice to walk around the shops. Around 6 pm we went back to my dad’s apartment and changed into some nice clothes. Cullen even gave me a corsage. We ate at Bilbo Baggins restaurant. Their food was very good. It was a very nice meal. After dinner we went back to my dad’s and picked up Gregory.

Mother's Day

Well I got some pretty yellow daisies for Mother’s Day and a card too. I love daisies so Gregory made a good choice (thanks Cullen). I also went to church. I got to stand up when they said for all the mothers to stand up. I felt very special. I was looking forward to that. The mass was about a person’s vocation. I did not find this subject particularly interesting and would have preferred possibly the subject of motherhood. The priest could have discussed how Mary was a mother to Jesus, or something along those lines. Well, I did not get to pick the subject of the day. I still felt very special though. Smiles!

Weekly Quote

Don’t cry over things that were or things that aren’t. Enjoy what you have now to the fullest.
~Barbara Bush

This is the perfect quote for today, because 7th Heaven was, and is not anymore. I should be glad I got to enjoy the show and be happy now that my Monday nights are free.

7th Heaven

7th HEAVEN IS OVER! I watched the last episode tonight. Now that it has ended I feel sad. I mean I really feel sad. It is just a TV show and I feel like I lost something important. For heavens sake it is a TV show and I feel depressed. I am just glad they ended on a good note. I did wish it was a two hour finale. I can’t believe they have been around for ten years. 7th Heaven always was a show that made me happy. I could watch it and just smile. I guess I just have to save up my money and get the ten seasons on DVD.

Goodbye 7th Heaven.

Something New

Today I had a migraine and Cullen had allergy problems too. We stayed in bed late and Gregory played in his pack-in-play. He was such a good boy. We had pizza because we were both out of it. Then I ate on the couch, instead of the table, we normally eat at our table. Well while I was eating Gregory came over to the couch and pulled himself up. He wanted some of my pizza. I held a piece of the crust for him to chew on and gave him some milk out of his sippy cup. He was very happy.
Right before Cullen went to work he carried Gregory and my water jug up stairs. Gregory leaned over and took a drink. I guess he has figured out straws too. Every day he is doing something new. I just can’t believe it. Although, I should have guessed he would go after my water jug he seems to go after it every time I get a drink.
Oh yeah from two to five pm Gregory slept with me. He was wonderful. He let his mama get a nap so I could get rid of my migraine. How thoughtful of him! Well, because I slept my day away I have work to do. So I better get to it. I am just happy I can clean with out a pain in my head. Smiles!

Sippy Cup Success

Gregory has been able to drink out of a sippy cup for some time, but he would not suck the liquid out of the cup. So I basically had to put it into his mouth and pour the liquid in and he would drink it. Today he finally got the idea. I had the valve in the sippy cup and he sucked on it. So now he understands that you have to suck on the sippy cup to get a drink. This breakthrough comes with apple juice. He just loves his apple juice.
Cullen and I have tried and tried to get him to take a bottle. Now my smart baby will never have to get upset about that again. Good bye bottles! They never worked anyway.

The Right Choice for Us

Everyone needs an uplifting story sometimes. Lately I have been going to the La Leche League website. They are a group that gives breastfeeding information and support. The website has some good information and I really enjoy the breastfeeding stories. Some of the stories are very funny and some touch me. I especially understand where the women who wrote some of the articles are coming from because I also nurse. Reading these stories reminds me of the special bond I have with my son. It is quite amazing. I have nursed Gregory for seven months and know every day that I have made the right choice for the two of us.

Toddler Diet

A DIET THAT WILL WORK FOR ANYONE!!!!

Flabby Americans are always on the lookout for a new diet. The trouble with most diets is that you don't get enough to eat (the starvation diet), or you don't get enough variation (the liquid diet), or you go broke (the all-meat diet). Consequently, people tend to cheat on their diets, or quit after 3 days, or go right back to stuffing their faces after it is all over. Is there nothing you can do but give up and tell your friends you have a gland problem?

Or is there a slim hope? Such is the new Toddler Miracle Diet! Over the years you may have noticed, as I have, that most two-year-olds are trim. It came to me one day over a cup of black coffee and a carrot that perhaps their diet is the reason. After consultation with pediatricians, X-ray technicians, and distraught moms, I was able to formulate this new diet. It is inexpensive, offering great variety and sufficient quantity. Before embarking on this diet, however, be sure to check with your doctor ... otherwise you might have to see him afterward. Good luck!

DAY ONE

• Breakfast - One scrambled egg, one piece of toast with grape jelly. Eat 2 bites of egg, using your fingers; dump the rest on the floor. Take 1 bite of toast, then smear the jelly over your face and clothes. • Lunch - Four crayons (any color), a handful of potato chips, and a glass of milk (3 sips only, then spill the rest). • Dinner - A dry stick, two pennies and a nickel, 4 sips of stale soda. • Bedtime Snack - Toast piece of bread and toss it on the kitchen floor.

DAY TWO

• Breakfast - Pick up stale toast from kitchen floor and eat it. Drink half bottle of vegetable dye. • Lunch - Half a tube of "Pulsating Pink" lipstick. One ice cube, if desired. • Afternoon Snack - Lick an all-day sucker until sticky, take outside, drop In dirt. Retrieve and continue slurping until it is clean again. Then bring inside and drop on the rug. • Dinner - A rock or an uncooked bean, which should be thrust up your left nostril. Pour iced tea over mashed potatoes; eat with a spoon.

DAY THREE

• Breakfast - Two pancakes with plenty of syrup, eat with fingers, rub in hair. Glass of milk: drink half, stuff pancakes in glass. After breakfast, pick up yesterday's sucker from rug, lick off fuzz, and put it on the cushion of your best chair. • Lunch - Three matches, peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Spit several bites onto the floor. Pour glass of milk on table and slurp up. • Dinner - Dish of ice cream, handful of potato chips, some coffee.

FINAL DAY

• Breakfast - A quarter-tube of toothpaste (any flavor), bit of soap, an olive. Pour a glass of milk over bowl of corn flakes, add a half-cup of sugar.Once cereal is soggy, drink milk and feed cereal to dog. • Lunch - Eat crumbs off kitchen floor and dining room carpet. Find that sucker and finish eating it. • Dinner - A glass of spaghetti and chocolate milk. Leave meatball on plate. Stick of mascara for dessert!

Weekly Quote

When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts… A mother always has to think twice; once for herself and once for her child.
~Sophia Loren

That is true. I can’t get Gregory out of my head, not that I would want to. I constantly think about what he is doing, can he get hurt, if I leave the room for a minute is he going to get into something, and so on. Thinking about Gregory and caring for him makes me feel very special. I feel like I have the most important job in the world. I may not get paid in cash, but I get lots of giggles and smiles and that alone is worth more than cash.
